I found this radio advert on youtube to give me a general idea of what sort of thing I should be aiming for. All other types of radio adverts I could find on youtube were all quite similar.
I decided to try something new and original that I couldn't find other examples of, and decided to do a 30 second slot of a popular song which most people will have heard before, and write my advert script in a way that rhymes and fits the tempo of the song.

Salford Times Radio Ad no music

It is plain and simple, but gets the message across that my newspaper will supply readers with the local news and events that my newspaper promises.
This advert can be improved by again, adding a simple "The Salford Times, now available at your local newsagents for only 50p!"

Salford Times Radio Ad 2.2

Edited so that the drums don't drown out the voice. The voice could also be tampered with to make it less tinny and more bassy.
I will improve it by adding a simple "The Salford Times, now available at your local newsagents, only 50p"

Audience Theory

Hypodermic Needle Model
The Hypodermic Needle theory is a model of communications suggesting that an intended message is directly recieved and wholly accepted by the reciever. The name, "hypodermic needle" is meant to give an idea of the direct, strategic, and planned transmission of a message into someone. As research methodology became more highly developed, it became apparent that the media had selective influences on people.

Uses and Gratification Model
This is an approach to understanding why people actively seek out specific media outlets and content for gratification purposes. The theory discusses how users will search for media that not only meet a given need but enhance knowledge, social interactions and diversion. For example, the theory says that people join Facebook groups for socializing, self-seeking, entertainment and information.
